Kathy Sturgeon was born and raised in Terre Haute, currently residing in Riley with her husband Roger. Kathy and Roger have created a wonderful family with five kids and eleven grandkids. Kathy worked at the Vigo County School Corporation for ten years as a bus driver and also at the transportation office. She helped run Sturgeons Farm for eight years. This was a great family venue with lots of activities including corn mazes, hayrides (haunted at night), a pumpkin patch for families to pick their own pumpkins, music, bonfires, corn box (instead of sand box), and straw mazes for the little ones. This was located at the family farm. In 2015, Kathy opened a venue called The Main Event located on Margaret Drive. Her goal was to provide a beautiful space to host a variety of events such as weddings, sporting events, corporate and fundraising events. This is entirely possible on the forty-two acres that the event space is located on including an eight acre meadow and pond. Her family is the center of her world and she loves any activity that they can enjoy together. While the family keeps her plenty busy, Kathy also donates a lot of her time supporting the Happiness Bag – Home, the NRA, Riley Lions Club, Ducks Unlimited, CASA, and the Wild Turkey Federation. Each one brings joy to help out where needed, especially donating The Main Event for their activities. Kathy also enjoys attending auctions as a hobby. Besides her family, her passion is truly hosting weddings and taking the stress off the bride/groom and their families. She wants the day to be as magical as possible and something they always remember. Some may describe her as the “crazy aunt” that is there to help with anything and everything during their big day! Kathy has a giant heart and the desire to help others. She is another example of the “relentless” mindset that we love seeing in the community. Keep up the great work Kathy!
